Our Statement on the Milton Behaviour Therapist Accused of Assaulting Two Autistic Children

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Hamilton, Ontario - February 28, 2026

Balance Support and Self Care Studios is horrified over the alleged assault of two autistic children by an ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) therapist at Spectacokids ABA and Speech Services in Milton, Ontario.

Autistic individuals are vulnerable and more prone to victimization. When parents and caregivers hire service providers, they expect their loved ones will be safe. That trust becomes irrevocably broken when allegations of abuse arise.

ABA providers should have clinical supervision from either a Clinical Psychologist or Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA). Both are regulated health professionals who must adhere to strict codes of conduct and ethical guidelines. Any incidents of violence and suspected abuse must be reported to the appropriate authorities. To help families who are considering ABA services, we've compiled a list of questions and things to consider on our website.

We trust Halton Regional Police to conduct a thorough investigation. As well, we hope that other ABA providers will review their own policies and procedures to identify areas for strengthening and seek additional support from the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) if needed.

Families who have children in service should reach out to their providers if they have concerns regarding their child’s safety and programming.
